The Annual FGLI Consortium Administrator Conference brings together a community of faculty and administrators to collectively address complex issues impacting FGLI students across higher education. Attendees hear from inspirational speakers, think radically about transformational change, and share knowledge about ways that help ensure FGLI students thrive at highly selective colleges and universities. Administrators and faculty working with and advocating for first-generation and/or lower-income college students at highly selective institutions are encouraged to attend.

Since 2004, Class Action has worked with first-generation students to ease their transition to college. Through consultations and workshops on and within many campuses throughout the northeastern region of the United States, Class Action has offered first-gen students access to the materials, tools, and networking opportunities necessary to thrive in a college environment. Class Action also works with campus administrations to identify obstacles to first-gen and low-income students.

The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) initiative is one of the largest and most effective programs focused on increasing the college and career readiness of low-income students in communities nationwide. GEAR UP is a highly competitive grant program that helps empower local partnerships comprised of K-12 schools, institutions of higher education, state agencies, and community organizations to achieve three strategic goals: (1) increasing the postsecondary expectations and readiness of students; (2) improving high school graduation and postsecondary enrollment rates; and (3) raising the knowledge of postsecondary options, preparation, and financing among students and families.

8th Annual Diversity Abroad Conference

Since 2013 the annual Diversity Abroad Conference — along with the Global Student Leadership Summit & the Strategic Leadership Forum — has constituted the most comprehensive national forum on issues of access, diversity, equity, and inclusion in global education. In March 2020 over 700 education professionals, student leaders, employers, and leading graduate programs will meet in New Orleans, LA to chart a path forward to reach a shared vision — to support student academic success, interpersonal growth and career readiness through equitable access to global educational opportunities. The Stanford FLI Conference is an annual conference hosted by Stanford every February. According to the objectives on their website, the conference aims to “Our objectives are to build the national FLI community through collective partnerships, to create a long-term action plan to support and advocate for the national FLI community, and to focus on the narratives of multiple marginalized communities in order to create spaces for all FLI identities.” While, partner schools on the west coast are invited to attend, students interested in participating from other schools are welcome to apply using a form on their website.
